                                                       About SANDRA BIXLER:

SISTER'S EARLY CHILDHOOD INSPIRATION
                                         KEEPS THIS CRESCENT ARTIST PAINTING

'Raise up a child in the way that they should go, and they will not soon depart from it' was wisdom
from the ages that generations lived by, which now seems all but lost, with more people looking to
the Internet, the stars or fortune cookies for daily direction.

Crescent artist SANDRA BIXLER... holds to the proverb instilled by family from her earliest days --a
source of inspiration
, which she is sharing in an exhibition of paintings, on display through October,
at The FRONTIER COUNTRY HISTORICAL MUSEUM.

As the youngest of 5 children, Bixler had the benefit of a caring sister --an art major, who was 19
years her senior-- who "always" encouraged her to express her artistic talents.  "When I was very
young, she saw how much I loved to draw." Says Bixler,"she taught me to look at everything with an
artist's eye," exploring "color, light and shadow..." --lessons that "served me well," she states. There
have been gaps...but Bixler has always come back... the canvas and colors have always called her
back.

Working primarily with watercolor, many of the subjects for her paintings are anything but
'still-life' --some being very unsettled and in constant motion, such as grand kids (a favorite subject)
and pets --particularly dogs, because they have "such personalities"-- that she translates into engaging
portraits --with the help of a camera, of course, to catch the instant and freeze the action. Charcoal
and acrylics are other art mediums she occasionally works with, to which she is adding a
re
-exploration of oil paints.

Time spent near the ocean, in Florida and Galveston, fed her love of seascapes --a frequent focus
of her paintings.  Bixler says she enjoys showing children --especially her grand
kids-- "how to explore
their (art) abilities." --passing on the encouragement that she, herself, received as a child.

For a time, Bixler had an art gallery in Guthrie, during which she started the "Guthrie Art Walk" in
1997 --an annual event that she is pleased to see continue to this day, though Bixler is not currently
involved.

The Frontier Country Historical Museum had a 'meet & greet' reception for Bixler on Sunday,
October 2, from 2 to 4 pm, with punch and cookies being served.

The Museum address is 500 N. Grand --located at the intersection of SH 74 and 74-C/Dover Road, in
Crescent.
